Education
Well-designed health science education facilities connect real-world scenarios to learning and prepare students for life after the classroom. We partner with clients to create state-of-the-art environments where new paradigms in healthcare can emerge through interdepartmental collaboration and hands-on learning.
Our collective experience and work with national public and private institutions mean we have a deep understanding of the kinds of environments needed to support leading-edge experiential learning and research. We pursue an unencumbered approach to programming and design, providing clients with a fresh look and bold ideas for what their health science education campus can become. We have extensive planning, management and coordination experience in developing campus master plans and facilities that stand the test of time, and while we pride ourselves on our knowledge, we're most proud of the long-lasting client and partner relationships we've built and maintained.
Designing health science education facilities requires careful planning and consideration to ensure that the space meets the specific needs of students, faculty and staff. Our process and areas of focus center around understanding the needs of users and addressing those needs by creating environments that foster interdisciplinary collaboration and immersive learning to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.
SIMULATION LABS
Simulation is critical to the education and advancement of health science education. Real-world healthcare environments, both current and future, continue to trend towards a complete and collaborative approach to patient well-being, and simulated learning environments are increasingly modeling the same trend. Our team creates high-fidelity simulated environments for learners to train and practice and, ultimately, elevate patient care. Throughout the development and design of these spaces, we balance multiple solutions to craft simulation suites that perform at a high level and maximize utilization. Details and execution are key to the design of these spaces, and we understand which furniture, equipment, services and technology will reflect real-world environments and allow learners to immerse themselves in the practice.
Ideal simulation environments remove the silos among academic healthcare professions, including those related to first responders. Well-designed facilities support learning goals by connecting real-world scenarios and preparing learners for “life after the classroom”.
INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
Ideal health science education environments remove silos among academic healthcare professions. We plan, program and design health science projects to encompass a mix of interprofessional programs including dental, emergency medical services, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, public and population health and other health science undergraduate and graduate programs. Each of these programs brings a uniqueness that allows us to develop tailored solutions and identify synergies to support meaningful interprofessional experiences.
ACTIVE AND IMMERSIVE LEARNING
Academic spaces are constantly evolving to respond to current and future pedagogies, student expectations and curriculum shifts. Our goal is to design flexible and nimble learning environments that allow institutions to configure spaces to fit a diverse set of learning styles. Spaces may be quickly rearranged to suit a didactic lecture setting into a small group learning activity with a slight turn of a chair. These immerse, active learning environments support flipped-classroom, problem-based learning and team learning pedagogies while enhancing opportunities for collaborative interdisciplinary learning.
