With over 25 years at RDG, Scotney brings a deep knowledge and understanding of historic architecture and design, serving as leader of our Restoration market.

His portfolio spans a wide range of project types, including work on existing buildings, additions, restorations, and historically sensitive rehabilitations. Notably, Scotney has contributed to the restoration of some of Iowa’s most treasured landmarks, including the Iowa State Capitol, the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates, the Woodbury County Courthouse, and the Iowa Governor’s Residence.

His comprehensive expertise and meticulous approach support all phases of a project, including building evaluations and historic structure reports, life safety and accessibility improvements, historic tax credit guidance, product research, construction documents, and coordination with multidisciplinary design teams. Having served for 20 years on the Des Moines Historic Preservation Commission, Scotney is particularly passionate about preserving historic buildings in communities of all sizes, collaborating with public, nonprofit, and private partners to revitalize these structures for the next generation.

He holds a Master of Architecture (with a focus on Historic Preservation) from Ball State University, along with a Bachelor of Architecture from Iowa State University.
