RDG collaborated with Menno Haven Retirement Community in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to develop a master plan to reposition their existing life plan community. The master plan included the addition of a new independent living housing and amenities as well as reinventing the culture of skilled nursing for both rehabilitation and long-term care. Five new buildings were added to the campus to complete the full spectrum of care and enhance the resident, staff and guest experience at Menno Haven.
With a specific focus on whole-person healing, the new 44-bed Rehabilitation Center at Menno Haven will elevate post-acute care in the region and beyond. The project achieved WELL Certification at the Gold-level and is recognized by the International WELL Building Institute as the first WELL-certified skilled nursing building in the world. The building incorporates research-based elements intended to promote the physical, emotional and spiritual growth of guests. It is also designed to invite the community in by incorporating several outpatient services, to sustain the community through a culinary production center of excellence, and to improve the community by elevating engagement levels of staff, residents and visitors.
The facility is designed to provide an abundance of natural and technically sophisticated therapy opportunities and a world-class recovery environment that pushes the edge of short-term rehabilitation in the industry. Non-traditional building features include a health and wellness library located throughout the building, staff fitness programs, the creation of a biophilia plan, including thoughtful incorporation of nature and natural patterns within the building and 10-foot ceilings in all regularly occupied spaces, and ultraviolet lamps in the HVAC cooling coils.
